It is no great secret that lawns occupy a huge portion of arable land. Lawns also consume huge amounts of water, fertilizers, chemical pesticides and weed killers, and maintain acne. The result of all this work: flat green land that is only good for walking. At a time when demand for locally grown/organic food is at an all time high, it seems only natural to take advantage of land that is right under our noses. For all the effort poured into lawns, would it not be better to get something back? Perhaps something delishious and nutrishious or blooms hummingbirds and finches will flock to? With a garden instead of a lawn, you will be the envy of your neighbors and enjoy the benifits of a more sustainable lifestyle. Let's face it: lawns are an out dated conventions that is sorely in need of a facelift.
It's time to make the suburbs bloom!
